1. Material
Common material choices for roof screening include aluminum or acrylic. Consider using light weight and rust-free materials such as aluminum or acrylics that will reduce long term maintenance costs for the system. Powder coated aluminum or Acrylicap® ABS both offer fade resistant color in a variety of standard options. Areas with high wing load may require specific panels, such as vertical rib ABS or aluminum panels.
2. Design Intent
Acrylic and Aluminum panels are offered in a variety of selections to blend with a variety of architectural designs. Choose a selection that blends well with the building’s finishes. Custom acrylic panel designs can be created to seamlessly hide equipment.
3. Additional air flow requirements
Unit attached screening supports are typically 36”- 48” away from the HVAC system to allow for adequate airflow. If a system has additional air flow requirements, a perforated or louvered aluminum panel may be required. Before selecting a perforated metal screen, check local requirements for screening opacity. If perforated screening is not allowed, consider a metal louvered panel.
